As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmutallahi Wa Baraakaatahu,
It’s your Sunnah Infographics Family here.
Hope you are well and in good health.
Did you know?
That sneezing is a natural reflex to clear the nose of irritants like dust, pollen, or even pepper. Some people sneeze multiple times in a row because their body needs more than one sneeze to clear the irritant.
While on the other hand, yawning is contagious.
Seeing or hearing someone yawn can trigger a yawn in others.
One is liked by Allah سُبْحَٰنَهُۥ وَتَعَٰلَىٰ and the other is disliked by Allah عَزَّ وَ جَلَّ.
Which one is which?
Let's find out more…

Hadith 1

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Allah likes sneezing and dislikes yawning, so if someone sneezes and then praises Allah, then it is obligatory on every Muslim who heard him, to say: May Allah be merciful to you (Yar-hamuka-l-lah). But as regards yawning, it is from Satan, so one must try one's best to stop it, if one says 'Ha' when yawning, Satan will laugh at him."
Sahih al-Bukhari 6223

Hadith 2

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, " If anyone of you sneezes, he should say 'Al-Hamduli l-lah' (Praise be to Allah), and his (Muslim) brother or companion should say to him, 'Yar-hamuka-l-lah' (May Allah bestow his Mercy on you). When the latter says 'Yar-hamuka-llah", the former should say, 'Yahdikumul-lah wa Yuslih balakum' (May Allah give you guidance and improve your condition).
Sahih al-Bukhari 6224

Reflection Point

Oftentimes, we see many people sneezing and yawning throughout their daily lives...
Without really knowing the virtuous or unpleasant nature of one over the other.
As Muslims…
Whether we sneeze from allergies, sickness or pepper!
Or..
We yawn from tiredness, exhaustion or waking from sleep.
It’s essential that we know what Allah likes and dislikes.
So with that being said…
When a person sneezes, he should say..
“Al-Hamduli l-lah” (Praise be to Allah)
And instead of running for the hills..
The onlooker should say..
“Yar-hamuka-l-lah” (May Allah bestow his Mercy on you)
And then the person who sneezed should then say..
“Yahdikumul-lah wa Yuslih balakum”
(May Allah give you guidance and improve your condition).
What a beautiful transaction!
As opposed to the one who yawns..
And doesn't even bother to cover it.
Opening up his jaw for the Shaytaan to laugh and ridicule him!
Thus, spreading a contagious lethargic energy among others.
What an awful transaction!
So next time you're out and about…
Observe these transactions among the people...
And choose the blessed transaction over the bad.
This week, we have designed a very illustrative and almost cautionary Infographic highlighting the blessings of sneezing and warning of the evils associated with yawning.
Your task this week, is to make sure you memorise the Dua (if you haven't already done so)
Just incase the opportunity arrises for you to engage in a blessed transaction!
And when you yawn..
Rush to cover your mouth, to prevent it from spreading like wildfire!
Because sneezing wins every time!
