We will be sharing two hadith regarding the importance and benefits of paying your Zakat Al Fitr.
Hadith 1
Ibn ’Abbas (RAA) narrated, ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) enjoined Zakat-ul-fitr on the one who fasts (i.e. fasted during the month of Ramadan) to purify him from any indecent act or speech and for the purpose of providing food for the needy. It is accepted as Zakah for the person who pays it before the Eid prayer and it is Sadaqah (i.e. voluntary charity) for the person who pays it after the Eid prayer.’
Source: Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah and Al-Hakim graded it as Sahih.
Hadith 2
Ibn ‘Umar said ‘The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) prescribed as the zakat payable by slave and freeman, male and female, young and old among the Muslims on breaking the fast of Ramadan a sa'* of dried dates or a sa' of barley, and gave command that this should be paid before the people went out to prayer.
Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 1503, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 986
* The Hijazi sa' is described as a measure equivalent to four mudds, the mudd being the amount a man with average size hands can hold with both hands extended.
Reflection Point
As Ramadhan draws to a close, it’s time to grab as much benefit and reward from the Holy month as much as possible. One of the practices of the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was that he would pay his Zakat at the end of Ramadhan before the Eid prayer.
So this week, we have designed a short, but comprehensive Infographic with a list of important benefits of paying your Zakat insha Allah. It’s with this intention, that we ask you to share the infographic with your wider communities so that they may also benefit. We have also created a new section on the website with all our previous infographics from when we first started our email newsletter, so that you and others can have access to it and also for anyone wishing to join the newsletter email list insha Allah.
You can access the past infographics, by simply clicking the link on the second page of todays infographic. So again, with that in mind, we ask our community to kindly share the infographic with others who would love to be part of our community. And by sharing, It’s one more chance to share in the reward of this blessed month, and be from those who spread positivity and goodness in the world.
Alhamdulillah.
