As Salaamu Alaikum Wa Rahmutallahi Wa Baraakaatahu,

It’s your Sunnah Infographics Family here!

We hope you are well and in the best of health and emaan…

This week we will be sharing some important points on strengthening family ties, joining the bonds of kinship and building and developing our communities from the bottom up, just like a tree that blossoms!

Do you know much about the family of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ ?

Did you know that the Prophet Ibraaheem `alaihissalaatu wasalaam had Ismaaeel who was the eldest son. Ismaaeel is the grandfather of the Arab descendants of `Adnaan.

Our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, was from the descendants of Ismaa`eel and he was the final prophet sent to mankind.

In Islam, the importance of maintaining family ties, keeping in contact with loved ones and knowing your family history is extremely important.

Ayat Al Qur’an - Soorah an-Nisaa   (The Women ) - (4:36)

Worship Allah and join none with Him in worship, and do good to parents, kinsfolk, orphans, Al-Masakin (the poor), the neighbour who is near of kin, the neighbour who is a stranger, the companion by your side, the wayfarer (you meet), and those (slaves) whom your right hands possess. Verily, Allah does not like such as are proud and boastful.

1 Hadith

Abu'l-'Anbas said, "I visited 'Abdullah ibn 'Amr at al-Waht (some land of his in Ta'if). He said, 'The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, pointed his finger towards us and said, "Kinship (rahim) is derived from the All-Merciful (Rahman). When someone maintains the connections of ties of kinship, they maintain connection with him. If someone cuts them off, they cut him off. They will have an unfettered, eloquent tongue on the Day of Rising.  Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 54

Reflection Point

Throughout our lives, we often go through times of difficulty with loved ones, family members, neighbours, parents and those that are close companions to us.

It might even be the case that we don’t know family members at all, and so we continue our lives in a state of not knowing. It’s important to know that our family members and relatives have rights upon us and we have rights upon them,  so we should try our best to fulfill it, as much as we are able.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should maintain good relation with his kindred.”

(Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim)

So let us visit our relatives more, spend more time with our parents (before their older age), and educate ourselves about our ties of kinship insha Allah.
