As many students, teachers, educationalists across the world, return back to education after a long summer.
We start to understand the major role that knowledge plays in our societies.
Through the correct cultivation and education of beneficial knowledge with good intention to please Allah, it enriches a society, provides structure, nurtures the young and protects the old.
This week we will share a beautiful reminder on the importance of seeking beneficial knowledge, retaining it, sharing it, helping others with it and growing as a human being insha Allah.
Ayat Al Qur’an - Surah Al- Taha (Ta-ha) - (20:114)
So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur'an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase me in knowledge."
1 Hadith
Abu Musa reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:
Verily, the parable of the guidance and knowledge that Allah Almighty sent with me is the likeness of rain falling upon the earth. Among them is a good group which receives the water and thus there is abundant growth of herbage and grass. Among them is a barren land which retains the water and thus Allah benefits people from it; they drink from it and graze their animals. And it falls upon another group which is only abysmal; it does not retain water, nor does herbage grow. Such is the parable of one who understands the religion of Allah and benefits from what Allah sent with me; he learns and he teaches. Such is the parable of one who does not raise his head and does not accept the guidance Allah sent with me.

Reflection Point
Seeking beneficial knowledge in one's worldly affairs and religious affairs is of extreme importance. As both are praiseworthy with the correct intention. But most importantly beneficial knowledge leads to growth and likewise knowledge that is not beneficial leads to ignorance and arrogance.
So what is upon us?
To have knowledge before speech and action.
Especially in our religion, before a person speaks, it is important to check and see that what is being said falls in line with the Qur’an and the authentic Sunnah, in accordance with the understanding of the companions. This saves a society from falling into error in both their dunya and akhirah.
Likewise, in the affairs of the worldly life, it is just as important to make sure that what is being said, falls in line with the correct evidence and research within a particular field or science.
I'll give you an example.
When you are looking to purchase a new item whether it be a car, house or a holiday. You would always make sure that you conduct the necessary research, look into the fine details before you spend any money!
As many begin the new academic semester, think about knowledge as rain, that showers upon a person and brings forth much good, if understood and used correctly.
For those who are returning back to education or work. Try to learn, understand, retain the knowledge and benefit others with it for the sake of pleasing Allah.
Stay away from knowledge that does not benefit you, knowledge that turns you away from Allah's remembrance, busys you in worldly affairs void of good intention and prevents you from fulfilling your rights as a Muslim.
Insha Allah
